Top five stories of the week

The top five stories on www.germistoncitynews.co.za for the week, August 5 to 11, were:

1. Scenes from the N3 bridge collapse

A pedestrian bridge collapsed across the N3 highway in Germiston, on Wednesday. The highway was closed to traffic in both directions and motorists were advised to avoid using the N3 highway through the Geldenhuys Interchange as teams worked to clear the debris.

2. Update: Photos from the scene of the N3 pedestrian bridge collapse in Germiston:

The N3 highway through the Geldenhuys Interchange was closed to traffic after the collapse of a pedestrian bridge in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Authorities worked throughout the day to clear the highway, so that it could be reopened to traffic.

3. ALERT: N3 highway in Germiston closed after pedestrian bridge collapses:

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) received a call at 1.23am on Wednesday about a pedestrian bridge which had collapsed across the N3 highway in Germiston. Both Germiston Central and Bedfordview Fire Station rescue teams responded swiftly.

4. Mutero shines at bodybuilding competition:

Bright Mutero from Unique Physique, located in Primrose, recently competed in the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding) Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix. Mutero is new to the sport of bodybuilding and has made excellent progress over the past year according to his trainer, Marius Wessels. At the competition he entered the classic bodybuilding over 1.65m and u-95kg division.
