Fleet worth R34-million to aid in medical emergency response times

The new ambulances in the metro are ready for action. They were unveiled at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station, in Boksburg, last Saturday.

The metro officially launched 36 new ambulances and seven primary response vehicles worth a total of R34-million, last Saturday.

The event was held at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station in Boksburg.

“These new additions will intensify quality rescue and emergency medical services requirements within the metro,” said William Ntaldi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).

The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina officially presented the vehicles to the hundreds of community members who attended the function and to the community of the metro at large.

After the official reception of the keys from the service provider, who fitted out the fleet and readied it for action, and an inspection, done by the executive mayor, red lights and sirens blared throughout the station in celebration.

Councillors and municipal officials led by the MMC for Community Safety Clr Vivian Chauke and the acting head of the Community Safety Department Ofentse Masibi, as well as the community welcomed the new fleet with enthusiasm.

“The emphasis is on the sustainability of quality service delivery and an improved, quicker response time to medical emergency calls,” said Ntladi.

“After the launch, the vehicles were handed over to the 29 station managers, who drove them away to their respective stations to start operations with immediate effect.”
