Gauteng Sport Awards finalists to be announced

Sports awards finalists announced tomorrow.

With just over four weeks to go until the Gauteng Sport Awards Ceremony, a team of independent judges have completed the adjudication process.

The judges whittled down the hundreds of entries to just 54 nominees.

The glittering annual ceremony will be held on October 1, at the Silverstar Casino in Mogale City, Krugersdorp.

The 54 nominees are from 18 categories with three finalists in each category, who will be announced on Friday following a thorough adjudication process co-ordinated by the Gauteng Sports Confederation (GSC).

The categories include Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Sport Team of the Year, Disabled Sportswoman of the Year, Disabled Sportsman of the Year, School sport athlete of the year, Coach of the Year, and Sport Personality of the Year, among others.

The Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) will announce the finalists in Randfontein tomorrow.

Following the announcement of the finalist, voting will be open to public to show support for their favourite sport personality.

“We are excited to have co-ordinated the adjudication process and were blown away by the response we received from the federations throughout the province,” said GSC’s secretary general, Yaseen Lombard.

“The increase in the number of nominations received proves that more and more sport organisations see the value of the awards as a marker of excellence.”

The annual event is aimed at celebrating sport personalities who have committed themselves to taking Gauteng’s sport industry to greater heights.

The nomination process officially opened with the Gauteng Sport Awards announcement on July 21. It was open to the public and federations so they could nominate their favourite sport personalities.

A total of 207 nominations were received from throughout the province.
