Community grieves death of a three-year-old

Cause of child's death still under investigation.

The metro sent its condolences to the Gwam family, after the loss of their child on Sunday, in Katlehong.

When the GCN spoke to the district manager media liaison of emergency services, William Ntladi, he said: “The child was found unresponsive at the church in Katlehong.”

He added that the child later died, however, the cause of death was still unknown. The Gauteng MEC of Health, Gwen Ramokgopa and the metro’s MMC for Community Services councillor Dora Mlambo launched investigations into the death of the three-year-old.

The Daveyton clinic, reportedly involved in the incident, received visits from both Ramokgopa and Mlambo’s offices to further probe what exactly could have led to the tragedy.

The metro thanked Ramokgopa and Mlambo for their immediate involvement in the matter and pleaded with the community to allow law enforcement to take its course.

The Daveyton wards’ councillors and other municipal officials have engaged with the family and have been assisting them with the funeral arrangements.

When speaking to William Ntladi, the district manager media liaison for emergency services, about the injured paramedic, he said: “She sustained a laceration on her cheek and had to be hospitalised.”

The metro has wished the paramedic a speedy recovery.
