Police struggle with several crimes in the area

Sgt Styles Maome warns the community about several crimes in the Primrose area.

The Primrose police are appealing to the community of Primrose, and their visitors, to refrain from parking their vehicles on pavements as it isn’t safe.

“We have registered a number of cases related to vehicle theft and theft out of vehicles recently,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“Despite this, the community is still leaving their vehicles unattended or parked on the pavements making them easily accessible to criminals.”

Residents are urged to park their vehicles inside their yards or in a secure parking area.

Other crimes that are a great concern for police are house break-ins and house robberies and smash-and-grabs.

“To prevent smash-and-grabs drivers of motor vehicles must adopt the practice of not leaving any valuable items inside their cars while driving.

“Everything should rather be put inside their boots,” said Maome.

Drivers must also be more alert to what action is going on around a red traffic light when they approach it. While stationary at the traffic light drivers must look around them to try and prevent themselves from becoming a victim of crime.

The corners of Pretoria and Shamrock roads, Main Reef and Shamrock roads and Main Reef and Stanley roads have been identified as smash-and-grab hotspots.

The community is urged to report suspicious activity to the Primrose police by calling the shift commander on 082 770 9202.

Alternatively, they can call the sector patrol vehicles on the following numbers:

Sector One: 071 675 6864/5

Sector Two: 071 675 6866/7

Sector Three: 071 675 6868/9
