Resident questions metro about wheelie bins

Wheelie bins, erratic refuse collection frustrate residents

If you are aware of someone on your street that still does not have a wheelie bin, inform them of the roll-out.

“We need to stop the illegal dumping of the black bags.

“The new trucks are designed to pick up the bins and black bags will not be collected,” said Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan.

“There is no cost involved for the collection of the bins.

“You will be charged for refuse removal on your rates account per bin that you have, so if you take an extra bin you will be charged around R180 per month per bin that you take.

“Please do not pay cash for a bin when you are collecting them.

“There should be no exchange of cash at the collection points.”

Morgan added that at the last roll-out there were private people offering to paint street numbers and names on the bins.

“This is for your discretion only.

“It is advised that you keep a record of your bin number and mark your bin clearly.

“Let’s work together to make Ward 36 a cleaner area,” said Morgan.
